Back to the old days
We received this 40 MB (yes... megabyte) harddrive which contained very important machine data. We could recover all the data that our client needed.
Luckily we never throw away old tools, you never know when you might need them
Even a car doesn't stop us!
Some weeks ago we received this disk. Appearantly, the disk was crushed by a car. Notice the case that is bent. We had a lot of work, but could recover most of the data.
Raid Recovery: Do's and Don'ts
From time to time we receive raid systems for data recovery.
Recovering from a raid itself is not easy in many cases, but the matter can become much more complex due to thoughtless actions by the user or IT manager .
First a brief description of the different raid systems:
Raid 0: Minimum 2 disks, the data is divided into
11 SCSI and SAS disks
Recently we had to recover 11 SCSI and SAS disks, damaged during a fire. We have succeeded in recovering ALL data. These disks made up 2 raid-5 systems en 2 raid-1 systems. The complete recovery took 1 week.
Fallen hard drive: what to do?
It still happens regularly with the external drives that they receive a blow or fall off the table.
We receive them here as regularly as clockwork.
Topped over on the table, dog passed by and stayed faltering on the cable, etc ...
If the drive is not spinning when this happens, the damage may not be so bad.
Don't forget th
SSD hard drives ... A blessing or a curse?
My personal idea: A curse!
Of course they are super fast. Anyone who has ever replaced a regular hard disk with an SSD is amazed at the speed.
At least, in the beginning.
When writing data to an SSD, memory must first be cleared before something new can be written. This is in contrast to a normal hard disk where you can i
Ransomware viruses. NB !
We are receiving more and more reports of ransomware viruses. It goes like this: One fine morning you want to work on your PC, and all the important files (word, jpeg etc ...) suddenly have another extension, and in the directory there is a file such as 'read this first.txt'.In that text file you will be informed that all your files have been encryp
A (for another company) hopeless case successfully recovered
We recently received a WD laptop drive for recovery. The client had already sent them (via a Dutch company) to a recovery company in Portugal. The family photos were especially important. However, the recovery in Portugal was not a success. Only a few photos could be recovered. In desperation, the hard disk was sent to us.During the diagnosis, it quic
Data safe in the cloud?
A few weeks ago my help was requested to recover data from 12! disks from a data center.I outline the situation: A company in Canada stores its data in the cloud at a data center. They assume that their data is safe somewhere in Canada. In the data center, a programmer creates a script and accidentally puts the line rm -rf in the wrong place. This L
